Motorola DROID gets support for Multitouch via Google Maps
Google recently released a new version of its Google Maps for Android Phones, the Google Maps 3.4, Slash Gear reports. The app is available for download via the Android Market and one of the main features of the new version is support for multi-touch, which is available not only for Google Nexus One, but Motorola DROID users.

Obviously, Motorola realizes that the lack of multi-touch in high-end Android-powered smartphones in the US is one of the biggest advances of such devices and the US handset maker finally decided to update the most advanced smartphone in its product range. It's no secret that Google Nexus One and Motorola DROID are two of the most advanced Android Phones in the world today and that's why all Android fans were looking at them for this feature. In the long term, we have all the reasons to believe that the functionality won't become available only for these two phones in the end, because Motorola recently announced that it planned to include multi-touch in most of its future devices. It's also worth noting that the functionalty is already available for Motorola Milestone users. On the other hand, Google itself is reported to have confirmed that multi-touch would come to most Andorid devices out there. According to the search giant, "The Android 2.0 framework includes support for multi-touch. As with other Android platform technologies, such as the text-to-speech engine, operators and handset makers can choose to implement this technology. Regarding the specific pinch-to-zoom functionality included in this new update, once we make this software update (2.1-update1) available to operators and handset makers, they can update their Android-powered devices accordingly”.
