Unannounced MacBook Pro Arrandale CPU benchmarked

Saturday, 06 February 2010 11:35

Geekbench posted its first benchmark results for an unreleased Arrandale MacBook Pro. According to the Canadian Web site, the Core i7 M620 is a hi-end dual-core part with support for Turbo Boost and Hyperthreading and was running at 2.66GHz. As for the MacBook Pro, it has a "6,1" model designation and runs on a non-shipping build of Mac OS X 10.6.2 (Build 10C3067). It's worth noting that the 6,1 designation has been spotted before in recent builds of Mac OS X 10.6.2, and the later build number is also consistent with the kind of interim builds Apple provides with brand new hardware.

As Geekbench claims, the new MacBook Pro is faster than the identically clocked (2.66GHz) shipping MacBook Pros (3700-4000), and the final bencmark result is 5260 points. It's no secret that Apple is planning to release updated MacBook Pros and Intel's new mobile CPUs are the most likely candidates. On the other hand, some international resellers claim that Apple's MacBook Pros supplies have been constrained due to unknown reasons, but the timing fits with a MacBook Pro refresh.
