Intel is planning to launch another hexa-core processor, the Core i7 970, Fudzilla says. Unlike the Core i7-980X (pictured), the chip is non-extreme, and according to the Austrian Web site, it's real and most details of it have been confirmed.

Although the Core i7 970 is a mainstream part, its six cores run at 3.2GHz. In addition, the chip also has support for SMT/HT (Simultaneous MultiTreading/HyperThreading). What's more, its QPI delivers 6.4GB/s and in the Turbo Boost mode, you could easily raise its clock to 3.46GHz. It's also worth noting that the part supports 1066 DDR3 memory and has the same TDP as with the Core i7-980X (130W).
The mainstream hexa-core processor from Intel is expected to launch in Q3 2010.
